Hello there Pearls of Wisdom Family!

Today I am starting a new series... "New additons to the DeVine Choices Family"

I have been blessed to have sooo many great couples added to the DC family. They are such hams..,The first thing everyone wants to know... " Am I going to be on your website?" LOL

Of course the answer is a resounding YES!!!!
Side note for aspiring planners that are reading: Every great planner has their clients sign a release of permission to use their photos in advertising..just in case there is that great shot that you just have to share with the entire world.

Well.. I am trying to do better with this blogging thing.. soooo what better way to kick things off then with this series... " New additions". I will be adding more periodically, but just to get started I will start with the most recent addition and move down from there!

GROOMDAMENTALS : INTRODUCTION

Greetings Ladies and Gents. My name is Jarrell Liner, the new DeVine Choices guest blogger that will be bringing you the "GROOMDAMENTALS". Now, you may be asking yourself "What are Groomdamentals?" Well, I am happy to tell you that the Groomdamentals are fundamental points of knowledge that every Groom should know and utilize before and during the coveted engagement to his beautiful bride to be. I am sure that you have already figured out that the Groomdamentals are given from a male perspective...I guess that the fact that I am a male myself kind of gave that away! As a former "Groom to be", I can understand how Grooms can feel that the whole engagement and wedding process can be a little overwhelming, a big headache, and all about the bride. Well, I hate to tell you this fellas, but IT IS all about the Bride! The sooner that you figure that out, the easier things will be on you. Trust me.

Now, the fact that the wedding planning process may be all about the Bride doesn't mean that you don't matter and that you have just signed up to be the errand servant and an emotional punching bag for your Bride to release her stress out on...even though there will be times, as a matter of fact most of the time, that you will feel this way. Fellas, we all have to understand that for a woman her wedding day is the most important day of her life. Believe me when I tell you that she has been planning this day since she was 5 years old and nobody, including you, is going to mess this up for her. The most important role that you can play during your engagement is to be supportive of her and a willing participant in any and all activities that she needs you to assist with. As a matter of fact, you can gain kudos from your Bride to be by being proactive and asking her if she needs your help. More times then not she will say; "No thanks, I got it" but knowing that you offered will keep you on her good side. I know, I know, you really don't care about what color that the table liners are at the reception, and you don't really care where you get married at because as long as you are marrying the woman that you love, then nothing else matters... but if you want to prevent your beautiful Bride from transforming into the well known and feared "Bridezilla" then you will participate with a smile! Pick your battles wisely, remembering that every concession you make at this stage of the relationship pays off threefold in the honeymoon suite.

I will say this, if the wedding planning process becomes a strain on your relationship, which it probably will, step up and suggest a good wedding planner that can help ease this stress for both of you (I recommend Tannie Barnes ). By doing this, you will be showing initiative and involvement in the whole process and ultimately you will me making the days leading up to your wedding go a lot smoother and calmer for you and your beautiful Bride to be.

Now, this is how the Groomdamentals will work. Every first Monday of the month, I will blog one Groomdamental that will hopefully help all the fellas out and make your engagement and wedding planning process more enjoyable.

GROOMDAMENTAL #1 : KNOW YOUR WOMAN AND WHAT SHE WANTS

You are probably saying "Of course, I know my woman...that's why I love her and want to spend the rest of my life with her!" Well, sure you do. What I am saying is that before you get down on that right knee...you know, the one you injured playing football in high school....make sure that you have had some type of discussion with your lady about what being married means to her. I know that some of you like the whole "surprise" factor and you just want to come out of the blue with your proposal. That's fine, but have that talk first. Do it casually, it can be months before you actually propose. You should not only discuss what her "dream wedding" may be, but this may also be a good time to discuss LIFE with her as well, from career goals to how you will raise your future kiddos. These types of conversations can help both of you decide if marriage is in your future and most importantly it will give you a heads up on what to expect during the wedding planning process. If she describes her "dream wedding" as something similar to the famed Royal Wedding that took place earlier this year, then you better be ready to empty your pockets and roll up your sleeves because you got a BIG job ahead of you buddy!

Ultimately, these important discussions can help you both get an idea of how to financially plan for your wedding and it will give you a good indication of what to expect during your wedding planning process as a couple, which will in turn ease a lot of the stress that goes into planning your wedding.

Now, after you have had the talk with your lady, and you are absolutely sure that she is the woman for you, now it is time to plan the engagement! This is the part that you are supposed to SHINE on. It's your time, buddy! All eyes will be on you, so don't mess this up. She will remember this for the rest of her life!

Day 4 of the FINAL COUNTDOWN!!!!!

This is a BIG HELLO to all you Blogger's out there...My name is Kendra Nelson and I will be Blogging alllllll the way up until the Grand Finale, right up until it's time for me to walk down the aisle on May 28th. Sooo lets have some fun!!!!

I have been getting a lot of questions recently, such as how does it feel being that you only have less than a week to finally say "I DO"..are you NERVOUS, STRESSED, or just Ready for it to be Over...well lets just say, YES, NO, and YES/NO!!!

What Bride to be wouldn't be nervous, the name she has been walking around with for her entire life is about to change..LOL..j/k..a BRIDE being nervous is much, much more different in my OPINION then a GROOM being nervous. Brides are more nervous about things such as..hoping her invitations come out right. Did I choose the right color pattern, or what about the cake, did I make the right choice, whereas the Groom is more concerned with how MUCH, how MUCH and how MUCH is all this going to cost me...gotta love those GROOMS though dont we.

I think most people expect "Brides to Be" STRESSED..well I am here to stop that RUMOR right now, BRIDES TO BE YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE STRESSED PLANNING YOUR BIG DAY!!!..it will have it's moments, but the END RESULT should be a Fun, Exciting, and Unforgetable journey. There are many things that can and will help you out if you choose to do them....The VERRRY first thing to do is.....

1. HIRE a PROFESSIONAL WEDDING PLANNER..keyword being PROFESSIONAL..I didn't say, a Family Member, or a Friend, or a Coworker who likes to decorate...There is a BIG, BIG difference between someone who just has an eye for putting nice things together, or matchig colors..than a person being able to pull off a PRODUCTION, because thats exactly what a wedding is..it consist of more that just matching colors and picking out invitations and helping you choose the right flowers..OHHH I stand firm on expressing that it is soooo much more than that.

What to do with your wedding dress AFTER the ceremony? Of course there are several answers to this questions , but none quite as daring as A "TRASH THE DRESS" session! One of my favorite brides, Krystal took the challenge and TRASHED her wedding dress. Her pictures are amazing!!!!! Take a look for yourselves and let me know what you think! I have recommended, requested, begged and pleaded with ALL of my Brides to be so daring. No one took me up on this challenge.. that is until now!!!

Keeping in tradition of favorite Friday.. The proposal....

My favorite part of meeting with a couple is when they share their proposals with me. The reason why I love this part of the consultation is because it gives me a sneak peek inside the couples relationship. As a planner this helps me start my creative juices flowing. This tells me volumes about his personality and the way he wanted her to remember this special day. Now my all time favorite proposal is the guy, Robert Gray and the way he proposed to Keisha Williams from Atlanta. I am sure you all have heard about the over the top way he proposed.

I love being a wedding planner and this weekend reminded me exactly why I love this job. Sometimes due to logistics the big "REVEAL" is not possible and by the time the couple gets to see the reception their guests are already sitting down. Hello friends.. I am often asked .. do you have a favorite wedding..Of course I have my favorites but I will never tell...If it was your wedding than you guessed it ...

Now I will share my favorite celebrity weddings with you. Here is one of my all time favorite weddings that was featured on Essence.com. The wedding is that of NFL player Daniel Wilcox of the Baltimore Ravens and Shauna Chin, a former Ms. Belize of NY. There are several reasons why this is one of my favorites.. They held it in a location that was non traditional..( gotta love it!) The got married at the M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, Maryland. Once you see the pictures you will see the other reasons why its one of my favorites. Enjoy...

Thank you notes...The Who what when & how's?

Greeting's blog family!
As I come to the close of yet another busy wedding season, I pondered how many of my couples remembered to send out thank your cards to their guests thanking them for their presence, gifts and overall thoughtfulness. This got me to thinking..hmmmm.. I wonder if they even know the proper etiquette regarding Thank you cards. Well if you have ever worked with me you know that I am all about Proper Etiquette so I thought this would be an appropiate time to share my good old friend Emily Post's tips regarding this subject.

When should notes be written ? ... I am soo glad that you asked this question! Let's ask Emily!

Contrary to popular myth, the happy couple does not have a year’s grace period. All thank you notes should be written within three months of the receipt of the gift. Ideally, a response should be written on the day you receive a wedding gift. If that’s not possible, set a daily goal. It’s a lot easier to write three or four notes a day than to have to write a hundred notes in a month after the wedding!

On to the next question..What type of Stationary should I use?

First of all, stationery is the operative word here: No fill-in-the-blank cards, no pre-printed cards, no phone calls, no emails and PLEASE no generic post on your website!

Tannie..Do I have to send everyone a note that attended my wedding or just the ones that gave me a gift? Wow...I am so glad that I have you thinking..Great question! Here is the answer to this one! This is along list so get ready!!

Anyone who gives you an engagement, shower or wedding gift, even if you have thanked them in person.
Individual notes should be written to people who contributed to a group gift.
Anyone who gives a gift of money: cash, checks, contributions to savings accounts and donations to charities. Mentioning the amount is optional, but it does let the person know the correct amount was received. You should mention what you plan to do with the money.
Your attendants. A warm personal note attached to your gifts to your attendants will let them know how much you appreciate their efforts and support on your behalf.
Anyone who hosted a party or shower for you. Ideally these notes should be written within two days of the event. Each host or hostess should be thanked individually with a note and a thank you gift.
People who house or entertain your wedding guests. A note and a small gift should be sent to anyone who houses or entertains out-of-town wedding guests.
People who do kindnesses for you. The neighbor who accepts delivery of your gifts when you are at work; the cousin who supervises the parking at the reception – anyone who assists you before, during or after your wedding.
Suppliers and vendors. You don’t have to write everyone you hire for services, but anyone who exceeds your expectations will appreciate a courteous note of thanks.
And lastly but certainly not least.....Drumroll please.......Your parents or whoever is hosting your wedding.

In closing I would like to list the top 10 D0's & Don'ts in writing thank you cards:(in no particular order)

Do personalize your notes and make reference to the person as well as the gift.
Do remember that a gift should be acknowledged with the same courtesy and generous spirit in which it was given.
Do be enthusiastic, but don’t gush. Avoid saying a gift is the most beautiful thing you have ever seen unless you really mean it.
Don’t send form letters or cards with printed messages and just your signature; don’t use email or post a generic thank you on your wedding web site in lieu of a personal note.
Do promptly acknowledge the receipt of shipped gifts by sending a note right away or calling and following up with a written note in a day or two.
Don’t mention that you plan to return a gift or that you are dissatisfied in any way.
Don’t tailor your note to the perceived value of the gift; no one should receive a perfunctory note.
Do refer to the way you will use a gift of money. Mentioning the amount is optional.
Don’t include wedding photos or use photo cards if it will delay sending the note.
Don’t use being late as an excuse not to write. Even if you are still sending notes after your first anniversary, keep writing!

IT'S OFFICIAL!!!!!I AM MARRIED!!!

The wedding was absolutely beautiful... Tannie and I attempted to log in and blog while I was getting ready, but it was too much going on at the moment. The wedding ceremony went by extremely fast and everything was GORGEOUS. I want to thank Tannie, Keisha with Keisha's Kreations, Jay and Aubrey with 4 sale by Photo, Cake Affairs, Sebrina with Always Floral, Gerald Blacher the DJ, LeJardin for a wonderful venue, and Monarch Limousines for our wonderful departure car. I want to especially thank my parents for all they have done and my bridal party. This would not have happened without all these important people.

I have enjoyed blogging for the past week and I want to thank Tannie for giving me the opportunity. I hope my words were encouraging and hopefully you can avoid some of the issues that I had to encounter during my planning process. Happy Wedding planning and now I need to get back to my Husband....yes that's right....my Husband...

I apologize for not blogging yesterday, but I had a lot of things going on. I got my hair done, my nails done, had a wonderful rehearsal last night, and a great rehearsal dinner. All my family is here and it has been great. I woke up this morning, went to the spa, and just finished eating breakfast with my bridesmaids. Now....I am relaxing. I just had a wonderful conversation with my husband-to -be............he is sooooo sweet. I am excited and I cannot wait.......I have wonderful news......I was just informed by Tannie that I will be blogging up until I walk down the aisle........(how great is that)...Up to the minute coverage.....

THE COUNTDOWN

DAY 2

Blog Family......I have two days left until MY BIG DAY.........I can tell you that I will have a lot of things going on in the next couple of days.....starting today. I will try and update the blog up until the day of with information on what I am doing. Today, I am at work for a half a day because more people are on their way to Houston and I find peace in my office. Lionel and I were able to complete 75 of the 250 favors that we have to make........Pray for us....I have my bridesmaids coming to help me tonight. Our goal is to have them done before rehearsal tomorrow night. I just received a phone call from the limousine guy asking if we were still getting married. Of course I told him "Yes," but he stated that he just wanted to make sure that I didn't hit Lionel over the head..........(too funny). I had to contact Al's formal wear this morning because we had a suite issue, but all is well now. We are just praying that all the suits come back in the right color and the right size........(that would be a disaster if they don't )........Please continue to pray for the rain to stop..................(rain would not be a good thing)... I want to end this blog with a letter to my single life......(when you are engaged and you are filling out a form, there is not a box that states "engaged".....you are either married or single).....so like I said.......to my single life....

Dear Single Life,

I am sure going to miss you! We have been through a lot together. I will try to forget the bad times, but I will never forget the good times. It is time for me to move on now because I have found the man that God created for me. Please don't be sad, I am almost certain that there are many others in the world that will enjoy you as much as I have. Until we meet again....which hopefully will be never, I wish you all the best.

The picture today is of a person that means the world to me, my mother. I would have posted a picture of my parents together, but my father isn’t really a picture person. My parents have been married for 29 years and my fiancé and I look up to them for guidance and as an example.

MONEY….MONEY…….MONEY…..WHO PAYS FOR THIS FAB WEDDING?

Blog family this is a very sensitive topic for me because it’s a lot of preconceived notions about who is supposed to pay for the wedding. In the past, the bride’s parents would pay for the wedding and the groom’s parents would pay for the rehearsal dinner. Now a day, the bride and groom pay for their own wedding. I have always dreamed of having a huge wedding and my father has known this for years. What father wouldn’t want to pay for his daughter to get married? As I stated earlier, I love my parents unconditionally and I didn’t want to put the burden of paying for my wedding on them, but of course, my father could not contain himself. My fiancé and I sat down with my parents and we divided up who was going to pay for what. Of course, my fiancé and I got the biggest chunk, but we were able to handle it. My parents have been wonderful! When I added things, I would ask my daddy and he would get it for me……(you may say I’m spoiled, but I don’t agree). My parents are even paying for the rehearsal dinner…..(some of you may be asking where does the groom’s parents fit into the equation). My fiancé father has been deceased for years and he was raised by his father’s side of the family. He never really had a close relationship with his mother. Well, blog family, my fiancé mother lives in Houston and they have an okay relationship…(lets just say it is different). When we told her we were getting married, she was happy. My problem is she hadn’t paid for anything nor has she offered to help with anything in regards to the wedding. Now I understand that some people are not able, but at least offer to do something even if it does not require money. His mother and I have an okay relationship…I am cordial (that’s really all I can say), but don’t come to me asking to add people to the list, asking why a particular person didn’t get an invitation, asking why kids are not allowed at the wedding, or asking why a list is going to be at the door, if you have not paid for anything (now I know I am speaking the truth)? The main people that complain and the main people that have an issue with everything is those who hadn’t put a penny……….that’s right……..a penny towards anything. To be honest with you, I was not expecting anything from her. It just saddens me to see my fiancé face because he is so embarrassed. He wishes that she would at least be involved a little bit, but she hasn’t. When he asked her if she would pay for something (and this was just a test), she said that it’s not her job and that my parents were suppose to pay for everything……….Oh blog family, I became angered, but as I stated yesterday, don’t sweat the small stuff. I do appreciate his father’s side of the family because they sent money to help out and we didn’t even ask them (that’s a blessing). These people has never met me in person, just phone conversations and they just up and decided to send us some money to help pay for the wedding. I hear my fiancé talk to his friends and say that his mother’s side of the family has not offered to pay for anything nor help with anything. At my bridal shower, they were there for about 30 minutes if that and then they left. Then they had the nerve to say that they were not acknowledged when they walked in……….(what did they want? An announcer to say their names?....Yeah right). My fiancé has a better relationship with my parents then he has with his own family. It’s sad, but we are able to manage. I try to encourage him that he cannot change the way they are……..me, I just don’t go around too often……The moral of the story is don’t expect anything from those who just don’t get it. It’s not worth it…

DAY 3

OMG!!!!!!!!Blog Family………….3 days and counting… I am so excited and ready for the festivities to begin. Tannie called me yesterday stating that she is revamping the table arrangements. Fine by me, I trust her. Guests are already starting to arrive in Houston….WOW already? Could they have waited a couple of days? All my hotel accommodations are booked. Tannie and I didn’t realize that the rooms would go that fast. We actually had to add rooms to my wedding room block…(It’s great to be loved!). Today………….Blog Family………….is my fiancé birthday. I want to wish him a HAPPY BIRTHDAY….what a wonderful way to end his birthday week with a wedding. Also, my mommy birthday is Friday….we are going to celebrate real BIG this weekend..

BRIDESMAIDS…….THE GOOD, THE BAD, THE UGLY!!!!

If any bride has had major issues with bridesmaids, Its been me! I originally started with 10 bridesmaids, but now I am down to 8 (not my fault of course). You realize a vast amount of things when you are getting married. One of the most important realizations that I learned is everyone that you think is happy for you, are not really happy for you. These certain individuals will try to do whatever they can to ruin your special day (HATERS…..enough said).Another realization that I learned is that I have very few close friends. I have a lot of associates, but only a few can be actually called friends. I now know that you have to be very careful about who you call a friend. Now, I am not a bridezilla, but I am not going to let you control what happens at MY wedding. I admit that I did have some demands for my bridesmaids, but they were few, far, and between. I was considerate because I know that we are in a recession (this word really is overused) and they were allowed to pay for things over a long time span. Bridesmaids were informed up front that if they had any issues, communication is key. Tell me about it, I promise we could have worked some things out. Bridesmaids were dismissed from my wedding because of non communication and because one was just messy. I will not get into specific details about the bridesmaids that were dismissed from my wedding because they may be reading this blog and once again I AM NOT MESSY. If you are reading this and you were apart of my bridal party, I wish you all the best in your life endeavors, there are no hard feelings. I love you and God Loves you.

“WELCOME TO THE LIPSTICK JUNGLE”

My sister and mother had the pleasure of hosting my bridal shower. My sister came to me one day and asked me what I wanted the theme of my bridal shower to be. I told her that I had some colors in my head, but I didn’t have a theme. It came to me in a dream that zebra print and fuscha pink would go great together. I immediately called Tannie for a theme and we brainstormed for about 10 minutes and came up with “Lipstick Jungle.” When I gave my sister and mother the theme and the color scheme, they ran with it. Everything was zebra and pink, balloons, invitations, table décor, etc… My bridesmaids even wore fuscha pink. Guests were given special made boxes with zebra and pink that included things that you would need to survive in the lipstick jungle (zebra tissue, bottled water, hand sanitizer, candy, and lipstick). Cupcakes were even specially made for this occasion by Ann with Kakes Xcetera……….thanks Ann, the cupcakes were a huge hit. Ann even made a cupcake stand with zebra around it (It was so cute and creative). Don’t believe me, see for yourself. Pictures posted below. Enjoy!

POINTS TO REMEMBER:
-Know that people are not always happy for you when you announce that you are getting married (especially if they are in the wedding)
-Be careful of who you call a “friend.” (they may not be much of a friend in the long run)
-Don’t sweat the small stuff, just kick them out. I promise they can be replaced. The wedding will go on with or without them.
-Have a wonderful bridal shower and enjoy yourself!

DAY 4

It’s getting closer and the excitement continues to build. I am so ready because it has been a long 19 months of planning. My fiancé is being very secretive about something…….(hmmmmmmmm) Yesterday when I spoke with him, he told me that he was doing something for me, but he wouldn’t tell me what. I LOVE GIFTS….and he knows that. He refuses to tell me what it is………but, I will be sure to let you know when I know. People continue to call me and ask can they be added to the list….You know my response was “NO.” Why would you call me and ask me the week of the wedding if you can come now? You couldn’t come then, so what has changed? Nothing on my end has changed and therefore the answer is no. Blog family we all need to join together and pray for those who do not understand. Also we need to pray to GOD that it does not rain on my BIG DAY……

It’s been a long weekend, but I am back. The picture today is one of my favorites. It’s a wonderful action shot. It just looks like I’m taking control (this is a good thing)….

INVITATIONS WERE MAILED……THE PHONE CALLS STARTED

I currently have a vast amount of people mad at me because they did not get an invite to my wedding. Oh well, too bad, so sad. I spoke this weekend about cutting your guest list. Well, those that were cut, where not invited and never received a save the date. When I mailed my invitations, I was not expecting all the phone calls that I received. The phone calls ranged from, “such and such didn’t get an invite,” “you didn’t invite this person,” “such and such want to bring this many people,” “I’ve never been to a wedding that didn’t have any children.” My response were, If they didn’t receive a save-the-date, why were they expecting an invitation? Also, to stop people from bringing 3, 4, or 5 people, I am not allowing children and I didn’t allow guest to put a number on their RSVP card. My RSVP stated: Two seats have been reserved for you and your guest…..(not 4, 5, or 6 people). I have yet to understand why people want to bring their whole “crew” with them to a wedding. This is not the club. Plus, I am not paying for people to eat that I don’t know. Weddings are expensive, and allowing my guest to bring one person and cutting out children has kept my guest list at a steady number. I even had people call me and tell me that they have never been to a wedding without kids….and I told them this wedding will be their first one. I am the Bride; this is my wedding, why are they questioning me? To stop the phone calls, my fiancé and I turned our phones off.. Leave a message, I promise we didn’t call back if it was nonsense.

WHAT IS RSVP?

The term “RSVP” on an invitation is an acronym for a French phrase, repondez s'il vous plait, meaning “respond if you please.” It is a polite way of requesting a response to the invitation, not a suggestion to the invited guest to respond if he or she feels like it. This definition is for everyone that has ever been invited to a wedding because apparently, some people don’t get it. You will be amazed how so many people don’t understand what it means. I made it simple for my guests, just write your name and your guest name on the line provided and send the card back by a certain date. I even provided a stamp. Blog Family, I still had to create a call list and call people. I received RSVP’s with no name (they just left it blank), with no name, but checked they were attending (they took the time to check that they were attending, but couldn’t right their name………SERIOUSLY), and guests decided to change “two seats” to whatever number they wanted to put. Blog Family, I was too out done. These people made me work too hard. Basically, I was doing a process of elimination. The ones that didn’t have a name, I tried to look at the postage stamp to see where it was sent from, then I had to call. Those individuals that I didn’t receive a RSVP from called me and stated that they were coming. When I asked them why they didn’t just send back the RSVP card, they informed me that they needed to use the stamp for something else. ………Now..I bought the stamp for you to RSVP to my wedding, not for you to tear it off and use it for something else (just trifling). Word to the wise, if you are every invited to a wedding, please RSVP.. Brides need that information for final guest counts, but Oh well. Some people just don’t understand.

POINTS TO REMEMBER:
-Don’t be saddened by those that are mad at you because they were not invited to your wedding. Heck, they didn’t make the cut.
-People will try to control your process and get you to change things……..It’s your wedding…Stop answering the phone… (I love my IGNORE button………whoever invited my phone was a GENIUS)
-Do not allow kids to come to your wedding. I know, for a fact, that if people cannot control their children at home, they definitely can’t control them in public.. (think about it……when you trying to have your first dance, children will be running around probably pulling on your dress while you are trying to enjoy your husband)
-Educate your guests on RSVP. Maybe they will get it one day.

DAY 5

Blog Family, I am pleased to announce that I have five days to go….I am excited more than anything. I spoke this weekend about my meeting with the florist that caused me so many problems. Well problem solved. I’m happy, Tannie happy, and the florist is happy. This weekend was extremely restful for me. My shih tzu, Chloe’ and I had the house to ourselves. My fiancé was enjoying his bachelor festivities and Chloe’ and I were enjoying quiet time. I did manage to get my seating charts printed in 18 by 24 and I scheduled my spa appointment for Saturday morning. It should be smooth sailing from here on out (keep your fingers crossed). My Granny arrived on Friday and she would hate to see me angry. The Bachelor party was a success… I have my Fiance’ back in one piece (that is all that mattered to me)…..

CUTTING YOUR GUEST LIST

At one point, my guest list was 250 people. Now I will admit that I have a rather large family, but my fiancé doesn’t. My family took up about 75% of my guest list. Tannie immediately informed me that I needed to cut my guest list down. Actually, Tannie didn’t have to tell me, my parents told me. My cut down process was simple…..If I hadn’t spoke to you in the past 6 months…..that right… ..six months, you were not invited. If you were extended family (meaning, if you know parents, but just heard about me), you were not invited. This may be cruel, but weddings are expensive and if I hadn’t heard from you in the past 6 months, you really not considered a friend……..so therefore why would I pay for you to eat if you can’t call?….(I may have stepped on some toes with that one…). Now extended family will always want to come because immediate family has talked about the wedding to them and they want to come and be noisy……….well…I am so sorry, but I don’t pay for noisiness. With this process, I was able to shrink my guest list to 175. I think I should give myself a pat on the back for this major accomplishment…….

LOVE IS…

“LOVE IS…” is the theme of my wedding….Tannie and I brainstormed for about 30 minutes about a theme and came up with this one. It’s funny because while brainstorming, Tannie and I kept saying, “Love is” and we were trying to think of a word that would describe our relationship, but every word we thought of described us. Love is…Patient, Kind, Unconditional, God, Forever, etc is just a few of the descriptions of Love out of the 25 we came up with. Each word that describes love will be the name of our 25 tables. Our table cards read…..LOVE IS…Patient. Below, I have posted some pictures of our table numbers and our custom monograms that were created for our wedding. My wedding colors are Mocha, Burnt orange, and Champagne. Fall is my favorite season of the year and those colors fit perfectly. Word to the wise, when you create a theme for your wedding, it makes it so easy because everything will evolve around the theme.Also, it will cut your spending because if you see something that you like and it has nothing to do with your theme, you won’t buy it. So………with that being said…..put on your thinking cap and come up with a good theme for your wedding…..

POINTS TO REMEMBER:
-Everyone cannot attend your wedding…..
-If you have an insane number of guests, you are going to spend an insane amount of money (think about it, you have to feed all these folks)
-Consider my cut down process… (it works wonders, but you may have people mad at you….oh well)
-Come up with a wonderful theme for your wedding….(it really helps)

Also, the bachelor party festivities started last night and I have decided to just not worry about it and get some "ME" time in. That means that I am about to shop. I am back again! First, I would like to thank all of you for your wonderful comments and feedback. Keep reading my daily updates. I promise you, you will not be disappointed. Everyday, I will post some of our engagement pictures……..Personally, I think they need to be published in a magazine…….

PLANNING WITH A PLANNER

I can truly say that getting a planner was the best decision I could have ever made. It has been a wonderful experience. I really think that my mother hired Tannie, because I was getting on her nerves (I’ll be sure to ask her that today when I talk to her). Tannie is the person that I can go to when I have an issue, an idea, or just when I am confused about something. She is also the person that brings me back to reality when I sometimes drift off into dream world (which usually happens when I watch Platinum Weddings). I can try all day to have a platinum wedding, but Tannie will be quick to tell me “NO” (which is something she is really good at). She has been like a second mother to me. She actually has told me “NO” more than my mother has. I can admit, I was spending a lot of money and I did need her to stop me and ask me questions. The moral to this story is I would be losing my mind, stressed out, pulling my hair, or just out right unhappy if I didn’t have my wonderful planner by my side to keep the stress down.

MY BUDGET

Blog family, when I initially started to plan my wedding, I didn’t have a budget, didn’t think about a budget, didn’t want a budget, and wasn’t trying to hear it when Tannie was trying to get me to tell her one (sorry Tannie-----love you). The reality is I am spoiled. My Daddy loves me so much that he cannot tell me “No.” A budget to me was not necessary, so I thought. Well, one day Tannie sat me down and made me go through a detailed budget just to see how much I was spending. Blog family, after that meeting, I had to cut off my favorite past time, which is shopping. This saddened me initially, but if I wanted to have a beautiful, romantic, breathtaking, extravagant, eye popping, FABULOUS WEDDING (yeah….all that), I had to stop. Oh…my GOD it has been torture. All my friends get to go shopping and I have to sit at home and say …..I had to pay for my wedding. All in All, when I see the results, it will be worth it. Now, I do have a bone to pick with some people that try to have FABULOUS weddings, but don’t have FABULOUS money. I have a friend right now (I will not speak any names…….I am not MESSY), who is trying to have 300 people on a small, tiny budget (this budget cannot buy you a geo metro), but she wants it to be FABULOUS. I don’t see how….as I stated yesterday, that will not be a pretty sight. Do what you can afford. First, start by cutting your guest list. 300 people, is too many……If you need help cutting your guest list, I am really good at it. I’ll talk about how to cut a guest list tomorrow. Stay tuned…you don’t want to miss it..

-Really think about getting a planner
-Really think about a budget (REALISTIC budget) that you can afford
-If you want a FAB wedding, you have to have FAB money!

DAY 8

The florist crisis that I thought was resolved, was not resolved. I now have to meet with this particular florist on Saturday to ensure that she gets it right this time. I can tell you that Tannie did a wonderful job handling this florist and I really appreciate her for that. The florist was still trying to give me tiny, small, micro bouquets Blog family, and again I was angered. Tannie was able to speak with her and they were able to come up with an agreement that made me happy again. To top things off, the venue where my wedding will be held, called me with a linen issue……ARE YOU SERIOUS? I thought I was being punked. Again, Tannie came to my rescue. Blog Family, if I had to do this by myself, I would have went to the Courthouse (real talk). Hopefully, today will be better, I am a little nervous because my Fiance’s bachelor party is this weekend…..but I have news for him, I am not even going to call him…….I AM GOING TO SHOP….I can do that now, because I am finished…….that’s right………..finished paying for my wedding.

Greetings Wedding Planner World!!

Let me start by introducing myself. LaKeisha Cotton was the name that was given to me at birth, but in 9 DAYS……that’s right………..9 DAYS (9/26/09), I will be LaKeisha Johnson (it kinda has a ring to it). I have been given this wonderful opportunity to blog about my experience in planning my beautiful, romantic, breathtaking, extravagant, eye popping, FABULOUS WEDDING (yeah…all that). I can truly say that my experience with planning my wedding has been bitter sweet. Everyday, I will blog about certain issues that I encountered during the process and helpful information that I think would have been beneficial to me if I would have been informed in advance. Also, I will be counting down until my BIG WEDDING DAY giving you detailed information on how I am preparing. Get your note pad out and pen because this is going to be GOOD!!!

WEDDING PLANNER OR DO-IT-YOURSELF (DIY)

I have been planning my “LOVE IS…” themed wedding since February 2008 and I can tell you that it has been a long time coming. Initially, I was set on the fact that I didn’t need a wedding planner. I thought that wedding planner’s were expensive and since I was extremely organized I could do it myself. WRONG……The most organized anal person could not deal with all this. When I actually sat down and saw all that needed to be done, I was sold on getting a planner. Also, who would I get to help the day of the wedding, my family? WRONG AGAIN. Family is not reliable and since they are not under any signed contracts, they are not guaranteed to be there. I would be ashamed if I relied on my cousin Tosha (not a real person) to bring the linens and she decides that she’s not going to do it the day of the wedding. Now I am stuck with guests sitting at white round tables with no linens (smh).—not cute

MY SEARCH FOR A PLANNER

Now I did mention that I am organized, which I am, and I am not one to procrastinate and in order for you to be considered as a planner for me, you had to be on top of everything. When I started my search for a planner, my venue, wedding colors, wedding dress, and bridesmaids dresses were already picked out (I don’t procrastinate…remember). I went to The Knot website and I actually sat down with almost every wedding planner in Houston. My problem with some was that they wanted to limit the amount of phone conversations we had (CRAZY). If I have an emergency and need your assistance, I should not have to worry about how many phone calls I have left….. Others wanted to change my vision and wasn’t very accepting of my ideas….are you serious…IT”S MY WEDDING. There were some who I couldn’t see myself getting along with. Then I came across a wonderful woman that owns DeVine Choices and my mother and I was sold. Tannie was very accepting of my ideas; she had wonderful ideas of her own, and we clicked instantly. I can actually say that this is the first time that my mother and I didn’t have to discuss anything; we were convinced that we were hiring her.

POINTS TO REMEMBER:
-Do not be sold on the idea that you can do it yourself. There are too many details and the smallest thing that you can forget, you will.
-Do not let anyone alter your vision….IT’S YOUR WEDDING.
-Wedding Planners are not expensive!
-Interview lots of planners until you find the one that YOU like and that works well with YOU.
-Please DO NOT rely on family and friends to coordinate your wedding. I have seen it and it is not pleasing to the eye!

DAY 9

I can actually say that we are FINISHED with planning…. Yesterday I was so excited because I don’t have anything else to do in regards to my wedding, but have my seating chart printed. We all know that when everything is going right and you are having a good day, someone always messes it up. I received a phone call from my florist that is doing my personal flower that really didn’t sit right with me. She called and asked me how many roses did we discuss would be in the bridesmaids bouquets? I informed her that we discussed 8-9 roses per bouquet. She then took it upon herself to inform me that she quoted me the wrong price for the bouquets and I would have to pay the difference to have the extra roses added. Blog family, I was angered. I booked this florist August 2008 and she had been paid in full since March 2009. Why would she call me the week before my wedding? She then went on to tell me that the bouquets she charged me for would only consist of THREE (little, small, tiny) ROSES……..Now these are bridesmaid bouquets, not jr. brides. I immediately called, my planner, Tannie, and they were able to solve the problem without me coming up with additional money. This is another good reason to have a planner. Tannie was professional. If myself or my mother would have spoken to the florist…..it would not have been so professional……

Tips for Attending the Show!

Set up a separate email account. There are so many services, consider setting up a wedding account through services such as, yahoo, gmail, or hotmail. This will very convenient because only wedding communication will flow though this account. You will also be able to use this account later in your planning process when offering your guest a way to RSVP to your event.
Print Address labels at home. Save yourself time and money by printing them yourself. Most vendors at the show will want and need to collect your information . Each label should have the Names of both the bride and groom, your mailing address, the wedding email account address, your wedding date and your contact telephone number. Note: Keep in mind once you leave this label with the vendor you have given them permission to contact you regarding their services. If you are not interested in their services then please by all means do not leave your label with them.
Two bag system . Have two separate bags, Possibly one that you carry and one that your assistant (MOH or MOB) carries. In one bag, place the information that you are truly interested in and intend to research further. In the other bag place the things that you may need to sift through at a later date for last minute items or can possibly pass on to the next friend that gets engaged.
Be prepared to make decisions and put deposits down AT the show! Most of the vendors will have their appointment books handy to set up appointments. The most prepared will actually complete the consultation on the spot AND offer on the spots discounts. (Please make sure that you have thoroughly researched this company beforehand because most retainers are non refundable!)
What to wear? Wear very comfortable walking shows as there will be a lot of walking. If you are planning on purchasing your dress, make sure that you wear something that can be removed easily. Also have fun by wearing some personalized t-shirts designed that identifies you and your bridal party as the bride and their roles as well.
Who should attend? This is a tough question. If you are just browsing and the girls just want to have fun, then invite the entire bridal party. If you will be making major decisions, then bring the major decision makers,Groom, parents and possibly the MOH or your BFF.
And lastly, please come with an open mind. This is your wedding, and there will be so many new ideas that every couple can add to their plans to truly make it a unique event. Some of the most talented and creative designers, florists, cake artists, wedding planners, gown designers, decorators and accessory designers participate in the show. They are all on the cutting edge of the "latest and greatest." Expect to see lots of new, exciting and beautiful elements to make your wedding day as special as the two of you.

To ask for Money or NOT?

I have been asked numerous times lately.. " Tannie is it proper for us to just ask for money?" My answer then, was always a resounding NO! I use it think that is was just plain ol' tacky to ask your quests for money. To me this was like saying... " hey guys, you are invited to a great party(ie..your wedding) but you will have to pay for your meals and drinks, parking, music, wedding cake.. OK you get the idea.

Well, since times have truly changed and couples are getting married at a more mature age, (medium age for couples to now marry is 26.7 according to askville by amazon.com) I have actually changed my thought's about this subject.

Now please don't take my word or thoughts on this subject.. let's dig a little further and get some wedding experts opinions that names I am sure you are familiar with.

Emily Post: According to Post, it's okay to ask for money as a wedding gift, however, it is extremely important to do so politely. Here are some of Post's suggestions:

If money is the gift you would most appreciate, get the word out to family and close friends.

If you are asked point blank what you would like, you might say, "Whatever you want to give us is wonderful, the choice is yours, but money is at the top of our wish list."
It's also a good idea to state the intended purpose. Perhaps you are saving for a down payment on a house or your honeymoon. Guests will then know how their gift may be used. (Source .www.emilypost.com/weddings/weddings.)

The Knot: The Knot has a whole page dedicated to this subject which would lead me to believe that would be a YES! Here is what I found was most information from them.

Flower Free Wedding???

I have been asked recently during several consultations .."Tannie , What do you think if I don't want any flowers at my wedding and reception?" My answer has always been the same to each and every question that is posed to me during consultation's about my thoughts. "What do YOU think?" I understand that with the economy in a downturn couples are thinking outside the box to find ways to cut corners. I personally love the no flowers idea and have actually blogged about it before in regards to alternatives to bridemaids flowers. The Knot recently wrote a article addressing this issue and here are a few great ideas that was suggested as well as points to consider.

What is you reason for NOT wanting flowers? Do you have an averse feeling towards flowers , is it because of a budget constraint or do you just have a desire to do something that's completely different? Once you have answered this question honestly then we can get going in the right direction.

What are the options to no flowers? There are endless options to no flowers and I will name a few just to get your creative juices flowing that we here at DeVine Choices have used with success in the past.

Candles packages ...This is popular Choice here at DeVine Choices It is less expensive than flowers and is normally a plus with the limited amount of flowers that are selected.

Paper Lanterns... When hung and placed in the right area these inexpensive lanterns make a a great decor' statement as well as adding additional lighting. Just make sure that you facility allows ornaments to be attached to their fixtures

Colorful fruit.... How about lemons/apples/pears/oranges in a jar for a great eclectic centerpiece? We have used this at countless events and it has always been a crowd favorite.

Anything goes; most items that are beautiful to you it will also look great on your tables.

Note to the wise: Make sure you do a test run at least weeks before the event to make sure that you are pleased with you choices.

Sorry guys but I had to take a break. I am back and in full effect. So much has happened since I last blogged. Let's see I have moved, both home and DeVine Choices. I will be uploading pics of both soon. We move back into our home from Ike's visit seven months ago! Yeees! DeVine Choices moved into a more upscale studio locale. We have named the location... drum roll please... DeVine Kreations Studio. More exciting information to come but I can share that Keisha of Keisha's Kreations and myself, Tannie of DeVine Chocies are still together. I know... we go together like peas and carrots, apples and oranges, cookies and ice cream..ok ok you get the point.

Flower Girl and ring bearer!

The average age for a flower girl is around 5 or 6 years old. The key is to have them repeatedly practice their parts. Perhaps their parents could have them start running the girls through it long before the wedding, then have them walk down twice during the wedding rehearsal. Position the parents of the girls near the front rows so, if they get scared, they'll run UP the aisle rather than down it. If she's planning on using an older ring bearer, perhaps he could walk behind them to help usher them up the aisle. The flower girls could also hold hands- so if one trips or gets scared, the older one will be there to help. As long as it is rehearsed beforehand, it should be just fine. Also be sure to give young children VERY LIGHT things to carry. With girls I'd recommend flower balls or wands in lieu of traditional flower baskets. These are easier for little ones to carry and a lot less potential for mess.

The Proposal

Wow, I remember it like it was just yesterday. On March 14, 2007, Dennis and I had reached our 1yr anniversary of dating. I had planned a beautiful romantic evening to celebrate with this awesome God-Sent man of mine. I wanted to do something special for the both of us since we both just had major surgery 6 weeks prior and needed to get out and enjoy ourselves. Little did I know that the weather would be the deciding factor. It literally stormed that evening and into most of the night. Needless to say we didn't get out that night. Dennis assured me that we would get to celebrate another day. Then 2 days later March 16, 2007, I was feeling a little sad and depressed because my father had passed on this date the year before. So I decided to get out the house to go get my hair braided and maybe I would call my sister to go walk through the mall or something. While at the braid shop, Dennis called me and asked if I wanted to go get something to eat. I said sure! (As he knows I love to eat) He said why don't you call Wanda and Aaron (My sister and brother in law) to see if they want to go. I called them and they were just coming from a church luncheon. I asked her what were they getting ready to do. She said, "Going to eat". I asked ,"Where? " She said, "To get Mexican food". I knew that's what I wanted so I told her to meet us at my favorite place; Pappasitos. Dennis and I met them there and we were seated.( I had no idea that Dennis had planned this with them all along.) Dennis had on his Atlanta Falcons jersey with the number 7 on it. He preceded to tell me to ask my brother in law what the number 7 meant in the bible. You see, Dennis and I had been studying the number 7 and wanted to get another take on it. ( My brother in law is a minister.) He said that it meant COMPLETION. We both agreed and Dennis said, "Absolutely that's what it means, that's why I know you complete me in every way." And all of a sudden he pulls out a ring from under the table and asks me to be his wife. For the first time in all of my life I was speechless. Everyone in the restaurant was waiting on my answer. After about 8 minutes of silence on my behalf, I said YES!!!!! I never did get to eat my food and that's a first.

The Proposal :

I was planning a huge baby shower for my sister at my parents home and was excited that I was going to have a niece. All of my family from out-of-town were coming to this huge event that I worked so hard on. I was so consumed in planning this shower that I was not paying attention to the clues that were right in front of me. The week of the shower, Lionel would surprise me with little gifts for no reason everyday. This wasn't normal activity for Lionel and when I asked him about it he stated that he was buying gifts just because (I accepted that answer at the time). My family members were also acting a little weird and was extremely excited and happy. I thought everyone was happy because I was throwing this huge baby shower.....that had a little to do with it...but everyone was excited about the engagement that was going to take place that I didn't know about.. During the baby shower, Lionel walked in and everyone turned and looked at him, because he likes to joke around a lot, Lionel told everyone that he came to get something to eat. As I was fixing him some food, he appeared nervous, which is not normal behavior for him. He grabbed me by my hand and asked me to walk outside with him. He looked me in my eyes with sincerity and explained how much he loved me and how he could not envision his life without me in it. He got on one knee and pulled out a box and when he opened it a light shined on the ring (it was too cute....). He then asked me to marry him....and of course I said YES... Lionel reports that he could not propose in front of everyone at the shower because he was too nervous. I thought it was sweet and intimate. I am truly blessed because I was able to celebrate my soon-to-be niece and my soon-to-be husband all in the same day with my family and close friends.

My Proposal.....Hmmm....Was it the best? Was it over the top romantic? Was it extravagant? I don't know, but it was definitely special to me of course. My fiance' and I have actually been together for what will be 10 yrs in March. We talked about getting married here and there in the beginning because we both felt like there was no one else for us. But after 5 years of dating and still no proposal I kinda gave up hope and was actually trying to figure out how I was gonna tell him I wouldn't be around for another 5 years with no ring. Me being the hopeless romantic I am, decided to hang in there. I just knew the day was coming. On June 21 2008 my best friend was married, before me! At that point I just said, ok, it's official, I'm never getting married! The day after her wedding, my fiance was preparing to catch his flight back home when he pulled up to my church. He was kind of avoiding me, which was weird because I thought he was there to see me. I was kinda hurt and confused as a matter of fact. I noticed everyone gathering around me. My mom, dad, family, church members, I mean everyone. At this point I'm extremely confused as to what's going on. He approached me, he begin to speak but I'm so nervous because I don't know whats going on, that I couldn't hear. It wasn't until he got down on one knee, right there in front of the church and asked me would I spend the rest of my life with him, that I realized this was a proposal. I burst into tears, he started crying, my dad even cried! And after all the crying, I said "YES" of course. He had been holding on the the ring for six months and every time he came to Houston he brought it with him but just couldn't bring himself to actually propose. It was my best friends wedding that made him realize he was wasting time, he needed to do this and soon. He wasn't gonna leave Houston with this ring again! You see, the proposal itself to some may not seem all that extravagant, but to me me it was special because he did it just the way I mentioned I had wanted it......with all my family and friends present!!!!!

The story of the proposal goes as follows: For the longest time I knew I wanted to propose to Tasha. I was planning this proposal for over a year. I researched what ring Tasha desired (thanks Nyckie). I spent months using my off days researching jewelers in the City of Houston for that ‘just right’ feeling (thanks Keysha). I knew I wanted to pop the question on 9-12-08 (3 days before her birthday). As 2008 neared towards August I began having nightmares of myself not having a ring. Even my daydreams became haunted by me not having the ring or the slightest clue on where I was going to get it. On August 15th (my birthday) before Tasha got home from work I spoke to my mom and told her how worried I was about the ring; she told me not to worry and something would turn up. No sooner than it for me to have another nightmarish daydream I saw a commercial for The Jewel Source. Before I knew it, I was in the car headed down Richmond Ave. to this location with the feeling like this was my final chance to make things happen. As I entered this unmarked 8 story building with thoughts of “I had 8 floors of jewelers to search and find the right choice”. I got into the elevator with the sound of the song that I asked our friend Enjolee to sing (playing in the background) to Tasha as I proposed. So I knew this was the RIGHT place. I ended up meeting a guy who does custom work and we were able to come up with the idea for the ring. Six days after my birthday I had knee surgery and soon after Hurricane Ike really changed things up for me. My jeweler ended up vacating Houston due to the hurricane on the day the ring was supposed to be ready, which caused all kinds of worry. The soloist who was going to sing during the proposal vacated Houston as well. Tasha and I were stuck in our home with no lights on her birthday and I was more upset than she was. I so wanted this to be her fairy tale proposal that she always wanted. The jeweler and soloist were gone, all of her friends were out of commission due to the hurricane. Eventually I got the ring and had my mother in law hold onto it until the new date of 9-19-08 arrived. The most difficult part of all this was not saying a single word to Tasha. Hurricane Ike caused us to move Tasha’s birthday celebration to 9-19-08. Tasha thought we were having happy hour at our house and dinner with friends. On 9-19-08 I spent the day buying all that was needed for the surprise. Originally, I had many things planned for that day to make it special and literally all of it was canceled. I soon came to realize all that was needed was my love Tasha, myself, courage, and the ring. Guest began to arrive at our house (all fully aware of the proposal) as she and I got ready. Since I was still on crutches, I had Tasha help me get ready in an attempt to slow her down. I got dressed before she did and told her she could leave the room until I came to get her. I had reached the point of NO RETURN. As I made it down stairs, I had a difficult time breathing, thinking, and staying calm. My mom, mother in law, best man, and one of Tasha’s bridesmaids helped me cover the house with multi colored rose pedals. Just before I went into the room to get her, I sat on the futon gathering my thoughts. I think this was the most nervous that I have ever been in my life. I literally saw my heart beating thru my shirt. Tasha’s mom was set to take pictures of the proposal. As I opened the door to summon Tasha, her mother snapped the first shot which caused Tasha to be paranoid with questions of “who’s taking pictures?” I grabbed her by the hands as I shook tremendously and backed up to the edge of the stairs. It was very important to me to get down on one knee, so I had to bend my left knee and keep my right leg straight down the steps b/c I couldn't bend that knee much. I told Tasha that I loved more than anything and I can't see myself living without her. I then kneeled and she gasped and I asked “Will you marry me?” As she cried her hand was out and ready. Her left hand shot out, fingers spaced out but she hadn't said anything, so I waited until she shook her head yes. I came to my feet and we kissed and hugged and engagement was on.

The Best Proposal Ever!

For those that know me, you have heard my proposal story, Or should I say the Story of the proposal that wasn't....Kinda of ...
My husband and I had a whirlwind romance. We met at Church in November of 94. Our first date was in February of 1995. We were married July 29, of that same year. For those that are counting we had our first date and wedding within six months of our first date We have been truly happily married every since. We truly agreed to just do it! We never really sat down and discussed whether or not we were going to get married it was always when we get married.... We both went to the jeweler and had my ring designed so I knew that the ring was coming but I thought that he would be Mr. Romantic and at least plan a nice night out to present it. Being the Right now person that I am the wedding date was fast approaching and no ring yet ! Plans were being made, invitations were ordered, counseling was finished and still no ring! Sooooo, being the less than patient person that I am, I started asking quite often....Where's the ring? Well, being the Mr. Take care of things person that he is... One Saturday afternoon he walks in the door as I was siting on the sofa planning the wedding of course, and politely hands me the ring and nicely say's ... here you go, take a look at it and make sure it is what we designed? Now you would think that I would be all upset because I didn't get the down on one knee, flowers and the whole candle thing.. NOT at all.. I looked at the ring, smiled really big and said yes, it 's exactly like I pictured it!

Sooo let's see... Technically He did ask me a question AND technically I did say YES... Ok.. Ok... I'm not sure that this really counts as a proposal... and being the hopelessly romantic that I am, ( hint... why I became a wedding planner)I have been giving him a hard time about it every since... I will admit that it is truly a joy watching him try to make up for the proposal that wasn't and ladies let's just say he is doing a great job trying!

I had a blast last night talking for hours with the great Photography team of Al Torres Photography Inc, Houston, Texas and his wife Carmen. I questioned him about getting together and doing a Trash the Dress photo shoot. This is a new trend that is sweeping the wedding industry (or so I thought) where after the wedding the brides literally " TRASHES" their dress during a fun and liberating photo shoot. After speaking with Al who laughed and called me silly, he candidly informed me that no one wants to really trash their dress! He actually told me that he has not found one bride that was willing "to get her dress dirty." Because of this quick decline in popularity he came up with a genius of an idea.

Remember - many reception sites book over a year in advance, so you really can't decide on a wedding date until you have officially booked your venue with a signed contract. (its not yours until you have a signed contract!) Find as many reception sites that meet your budget, capacity and overall style quotient as you can. This is where your planner comes in! We can save you many steps here. I good planner can narrow down your choices and steer you both in the right direction according to your budget. Then schedule appointments to tour each wedding venue and meet with the manager. After that-it's decision making time.

As you may have heard it said, once you find your reception site, everything else falls into place, This is a true statement, you are on easy street from here!

Once you have accomplished these steps, you will find the rest of your planning task list a piece of, ahem, wedding cake.

OK, now you have shared the great news with everyone, you are ready to move forward with the next step. This next step encompasses quite a few things:

A. Decide on wedding season and formality (this will help you narrow down your wedding date, the type of wedding and the location) You have many choices, do you both like cold weather or warm weather ? Day or night ?

B. From here you can set your date ( be prepared to be a little flexible with this date due to availability of your location choices)

D. Set a realistic budget (find out if your families are going to contribute to this event. if you have no idea what weddings cost then do your homework! Research on the Internet however the best way to find out is to ask a close friend that was recently married or ask a planner what weddings are costing today or you can use this link to calculate you wedding budget.

Tell Your Parents:

You should tell your parents before anyone else if at all possible. Ideally this should be done in person with both of you present. (this way they can see for themselves how happy and excited you both are )Traditionally the brides parents are the first to approach with the exciting news , then the grooms parents. Today's couples can actually have a dinner, invite both sets of parents and share the news at one time. This way wedding planning can begin immediately!

You can then share the news with your closest friends and family members that would be likely candidates for maid/matron and best man honors.

By now you know that I am anything but traditional. It it my belief that the party should fit the bride and her guests. It is holiday season and as a event planner I am asked often for different drink options. Being a non drinker I am always mindful that not everyone drinks alcohol during the events that I plan and I always suggest that the drinks are designed to be delicious both ways, alcohol or not! Check out some of the drinks that I have suggested that have been hits at weddings and events during the Christmas season.

The Cranberry Celebraton
3 oz.
cranberry juice
2 oz.
orange juice
1/8 oz.
lime cordial soda water
frozen cranberries
Optional
1½ oz
vodka

DirectionsIn a cocktail shaker filled with ice, combine 3 oz cranberry juice, 2 oz orange juice and 1/8 oz lime cordial. Shake sharply and strain into a collins glass filled with ice. Top with soda water and sprinkle with frozen cranberries.
For an individual cocktail, add 1½ oz. of vodka.

2-48 oz. (1.36 L) cans
pineapple juice
1-40 oz. (1.14 L) bottle
cranberry juice
2-750 mL bottles
soda water
1 litre
strawberry, raspberry or lime sherbet
Optional
1½ oz.
Vodka (for an individual cocktail)

DirectionsIn a punch bowl, mix juices. Pour in soda water. Top with scoops of sherbet.
Makes about 16 1-cup (250 mL) servings.
For an individual cocktail, add 1½ oz. of vodka.

I am so excited to announce that we have our first DeVine Choices baby. One of my favorite couples, well actually the excited daddy sent me a email several months ago to inform me that they were expecting. It was such great news to hear. While planning their wedding we really bonded as friends. This particular couple has become truly like family to me. We have shared meals together, I have spent the nights at family members home while we were doing research for their wedding and my daughter and I were invited to attend the Essence Music Festival concert together with them several years ago! We had a blast! Last week the groom had a surprise baby shower at our place of employment and I thought I would share some of their pictures with you guys. Once I get pictures of Miss Nadia who was actually born the very next day I will share them with you as well.

Hello Everyone!

I know that I have blogged briefly about me moving into my new home for DeVine Choices.

I have also briefly mentioned and shared a sneak peek of my "other half" that I share the new office space with. I would like to take this time to officially introduce you to Keisha Ervin or "Boss Lady as my husband and I like to call her.

It has always been said that it is not easy for two ladies to come together and share a room together much less a business! Before I introduce you guys to Keisha let me share how we met...

Back story: I met Keisha at a open house for a Caterer here in Houston, Texas that she supplied flowers for while waiting on a Bride and groom seeking out caterers for their upcoming wedding. Being the early bird that I am, I was there almost an hour early. No one else was there of course but Keisha and the staff of the facility who was rushing around preparing for the event. I noticed she had such a pleasant smile in spite of working alone while gently placing her flowers on each table. OK..this is so not true,it sounds great but ... here is the real deal........ LOL What really happened was..... I saw this lady manhandling these poor flowers and I thought, Oh lord I better go over there and help those poor flowers out before this lady tear them all to pieces. I asked if she needed help with the flowers, she accepted, thank God, and the next thing I know she had me working for her until my couple showed up. At the end of the evening I made sure that I had one of her cards (just to check on the flowers and promised that I would call her for a consultation for my next couple. I did keep my word, I called her and here we are years later sharing office space. ( yes, She still man handled flowers, but I am working on her to be kinder and gentler but she tells me that you cant be scared to shape and mold them to her Kreations. I know this to be true because she makes awesome kreations!)

Keisha and I are truly inseparable. You see one, you always see the other. Bridal shows, Dinners, Luncheons, Shopping, and any networking opportunity. It has gotten so commonplace to see us together at events that most vendors will ask, Where's your other half? You guys really compliment one another, you really should consider combining businesses.

HMMMM..... Maybe someday.

We thought about it for years and I would always say if the opportunity presents itself we would make the move. I always felt that as a planner I needed to be centrally located. My office was located in the Reliant Area of Houston and Keisha's location was in Sugarland, Texas. We would always joke,It's like we have two locations. She would meet some of her clients at my office and I would meet some of my clients at her office depending on the travel distance for them. It actually got to the point that our clients would even joke, you guys should just move in together to make it easier for everyone. This way, we can meet the florist and wedding planner at the same time. HMM .. we thought not a bad idea.

Fast forward to September 2008: Ike hit Houston, my building is in a business complex of approx 8 other office buildings. My building was the only building destroyed out of the eight other buildings and Keisha says to me, trying to look sad, but really trying to hide her smile " Ok, Tannie, Whats your excuse now, you have no choice but to make the move. You have no 0ffice space!"

I made the move about a few weeks after our conversation which was several months ago and I must admit I honestly love it!!! We truly compliment one another very well. She is the florist, very creative and business minded. I am the wedding planner, very focus and detailed oriented.

Keisha is a loving wife, mother of two beautiful daughters and a true friend. She is a Engineer by profession, a florist by trade and a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Inc.

OK, I can finally say that I truly know what my Brides and couples go through when posing for their Bridals or wedding pictures. Several weeks ago I had the pleasure with my New Business associate as well as new staff ( I will come back and blog about this later) to have a photo session for our promotional shots. Our photographer was, ETC Owner and Lead Photographer, Tawana Cox. She was awesome!! She took the time to make sure everyone was relaxed as well as comfortable in front of the camera. Boy was it a big difference being in front of the camera instead of making sure my couples or brides are looking their best. I will NEVER again say "just relax." I now know that this is easier said than done. This was said to me at least 50 times during our photo shoot. We had a ball getting ready for the shoot. I had my makeup professionally applied by, Christie, and she did a great job if I do say so myself. I did the total makeover with the lashes and all! OK, again I will never say, Please try not to blink. This is a huge task for a non lash wearer like myself. I have such a greater appreciation for my brides and their bridal party and what they go through for the wedding portraits. I actually know a few of my brides that are going to enjoy this post as I am big on suggesting that they go all the way for their bridal portraits because now their planner took her own advice and went all the way for my promotional shots.

I am Thankful !

Let us give thanks for another year. We here at DeVine Choices would like to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving.

We have so much to be thankful for this year. It is rare that I share personal things about my life here on my blog but I would be remiss if I did not share at least one of the things that I am most thankful about this year.

Last year this time my family was sitting in a hospital room at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center with my 48 year old brother that was recovering from Prostate Cancer Surgery. To date he is still cancer free. What a difference a year make!

This is one of the many things that my family has to be thankful for, Now it's your turn to share!

I will be off for the rest of the week. I am on my way to New Orleans Louisiana to Support those Grambling Tigers as they put those Southern Jaguars in their cage!

A Fairy tale Love Affair

This weekend I had the pleasure of coordinating a real fairy tale love story. It was a fairy tale themed wedding, glass slipper, dukes, duchesses, candles everywhere, the whole works. The only thing missing was a horse driven carriage. Instead they rode off happily ever after in a Mercedes Benz! Stay tuned for pictures. I was told by guests that it was very nice and as the story was narrated they sat on tiptoe anticipation waiting to see what was going to happen next! WEDDING FAVORS

I have been asked recently by several brides "what type of favors should we prepare? " My question would be WHY do you want to pass out favors? During the years favors have evolved into things that the guest can use well after the wedding. I remember when I got married several years ago suitable favors were, matches and napkins with the couple name and wedding date printed on them. Today the norm would be candy/popcorn buffets, or nice trinkets to remind your guest of your special day. I have browsed cyber space and have come up with some neat favors to suggest! I have three brides presently looking for wedding shoes. Please keep in mind that these shoes have to be special. But of course they are the shoes that they will be wearing on their wedding day. I have been asked numerous times. " Mrs.Tannie do you like them?" I love that my opinion matters to them but my question to them is always .. " Do you like them?

Before you make this special purchase please take a look at some important information about picking the right shoe. The last thing you want to have to deal with is pain that limits your mobility and enjoyment.

Some experts recommend that all brides have two pairs of shoes -- one formal pair for the ceremony, receiving line, pictures, and arrival at the reception, then another comfortable and more casual pair for the rest of the night. Ballet slipper-type shoes are a popular reception choice for a reception night that will be heavy on dancing and your feet.

Be sure to pick a shoe that complements your dress and your own style. After all, you'll be seeing them in pictures and maybe even video for the rest of your life.Consider the fabric of your dress. Some say to match silk and satin gowns to satin shoes. Sandals, slippers, pumps, and strap heels are all appropriate footwear on your big day.

Who's invited ?

I am always amazed at how many couples get tangled up when it is time to draft up the guest list. I am asked numerous times to be their guest list referee. Believe it or not this is really a deal breaker. I have seen families torn apart at a time when everyone should be celebrating. With this issue in mind I have compiled a list of

Who should be invited to your wedding ?

Sit down with your fiancee', and both sets of parents and list everyone you can think of to invite ( stay with me here.... we will narrow it down later)
Use the one-year rule for friends: If you haven't had a meaningful conversation with this person within the last year, don't invite him or her. ( I love it! )
Now here is were everyone helps to weed people from the list. ( I told you I would narrow it down later)
Avoid the "If I invite this cousin, I must invite all cousins" trap. And don't feel obligated to invite people who invited you to their wedding. Relationships change. (great advice, especially if you both have large families, this could be very costly)
Exclude children if possible. Suddenly a family of six is a manageable party of two. (make sure you know your families. If you know that this is going to be trouble at least put a age limit on it.. say 13 and up)
Address the invitations only to those you intend to invite. If your single friend rates an invitation please include + 1. (it will save time in the end because they always show up with a date)
Keep the list limited to personal friends. Do you hang out with co-workers away from the office? If not, don't invite them.
Make sure that the same number of people are invited from each side. This will prevent in-laws from feeling cheated. ( as much as possible...No it does not matter whose paying for this!)
Keep in mind that on average, about 25 percent of your guests won't be able to make it.
Make a first and second list. Put the absolutely-must-invites on the first list, and as the RSVPs come in, send an invitation from the second list for each regret.

Wedding Insurance 101

Though you might not want to think about it, disasters can strike your wedding day. From a sudden cancellation to stolen gifts to a damaged gown, wedding insurance can help protect you against the unforseen, and can also afford you great peace of mind. But what exactly is wedding insurance -- and how does it work? Here's the inside scoop.

What Is It?

Basically, wedding insurance protects a couple's investment from circumstances beyond their control, and reimburses expenses incurred. For example, what if your limo driver doesn't show up and you have to book another one the morning of the wedding -- for three times the price? Or what if the groom's custom-made tuxedo is lost in airport baggage, and he has to buy a new one the day before the wedding? What if your reception space goes out of business a month before the wedding, and you lose your deposit and have to book another space? These are the types of big-day financial losses that wedding insurance can help to protect.

Why Get Wedding Insurance?

Consider these scenarios:
#1. Janet and Dan spend months planning their winter wedding. But on wedding day, their reception site is made inaccessible by an ice storm. With the right wedding insurance policy, the couple can postpone their wedding and receive every penny they lost (less the deductible) -- including money for the invites, cake, catering, attire, and non-refundable deposits for ceremony musicians, floral designer, and other vendors.
#2. The bride's father is injured in a car accident just before the wedding and cannot travel. If the couple has to postpone their wedding, with wedding insurance they could be paid back their expenses to enable them to have the wedding when the father recovers.
#3. Right before the ceremony, Brittany's gown catches a gust of wind. Unfortunately, the tulle dances right over to the end of Uncle Howard's cigar and the dress instantly goes up in flames. Fortunately, the right insurance policy covers the replacement of the veil and gown.

How Much Does It Cost?

A basic insurance policy that covers loss of photos, videos, attire, presents, rings, and deposits usually costs anywhere between $155 and $550, depending on the amount of coverage you want. General liability insurance, which covers up to $1,000,000 for accidents, costs around $185.
Before you buy wedding insurance, check with your each of your vendors to see how well they're covered.

Do You Really Need It?

Before you buy wedding insurance, check with your each of your vendors to see how well they're covered -- your reception site or your caterer may already have their own insurance, so you wouldn't want to pay for overlapping coverage out of your own pocket. Ask your vendors for a copy of their policy, and then figure out where you aren't fully covered.

When Should You Get It?

The sooner the better. Let's say you put a deposit on your reception hall 12 months prior to your wedding date and then it burns to the ground a few weeks before the big day. With wedding insurance, you'll be sure to get your deposit back. But note: most insurance companies have limitations on how far in advance you can purchase insurance.

What Does It Cover?

Problems with the site, weather, vendors, key people, sickness, or injury are the top concerns come wedding day. There is usually a specified maximum amount, which can be claimed under each section, and a deductible also applies. Be sure to find out the details of your insurance plan.
Site: Check to see if your ceremony and reception site is already insured. If it's not, wedding insurance can cover the cost arising out of unavoidable cancellation (such as damage or inaccessibility to the ceremony site), if your reception hall is unable to honor your reservation because it has burned in a fire, experienced an electrical outage, or just plain closed down. Sometimes this policy covers the rehearsal dinner site, too.
Weather: Any weather conditions which prevent the bride, groom, any relative whose presence at the wedding is essential, or the majority of the guests from reaching the premises where the wedding is to take place. Insurance covers rescheduling the wedding and all the details involved -- such as ceremony flowers, tent rental, and reception food.
Vendor No-show: What if essential wedding people -- the caterer or the officiant, for example -- fail to show up? A wedding insurance policy usually covers cancellation or postponement of the wedding for these reasons.
Sickness or Injury: Wedding insurance may also include sickness or injury to the bride, groom, or anyone essential to the wedding.
Military or Job: It's true, military personnel may be shipped out at a moment's notice. Wedding insurance can cover postponement of the wedding due to the bride or groom suddenly getting called to military duty. This can also apply to a last-minute corporate move -- i.e. the bride's company suddenly relocates her to another city.
Wedding Insurance Doesn't Cover...
A change of heart. In other words, cold feet don't count.
Watches, jewelry, or semi-precious gemstones or pearls (even if they are attached to clothing) may not be covered.
While your wedding rings may be covered by the policy, your engagement ring probably will not.

Additional Coverage
Couples can take out supplemental policies to defend against damages incured by other wedding-related items such as photography, videography, and gifts.
Photography: Some policies pay to retake the photographs after the fact if the photographer fails to appear or the original negatives are lost, damaged, stolen, or not properly developed. Some policies will pay to re-stage the event -- with the principal participants so that pictures can be retaken. A policy may also pay costs for rehiring a photographer, buying a new wedding cake, and new flowers.
Videographer: When a videotape produced by a professional videographer is damaged (he or she used faulty materials for example), a policy usually pays a certain amount to have either a video montage created, a video compilation made of the photographs and other wedding memorabilia, or, if possible, a retaking of the official video at a restaging.
Gifts: Whether they're mailed to your home or handed to you on your wedding day, valuable items like gifts are something else you might want to consider insuring. Think about a party crasher lifting unattended presents from your reception. Gift coverage pays to repair or replace non-monetary gifts that are lost, stolen, or damaged. A police report is usually required for stolen gifts. The damage or theft generally has to take place within a limited time period (ranging from 24 hours to seven days depending on the specific policy) before or after the wedding, in order to be covered.
Attire: This coverage pays to repair or replace the bridal gown or other special attire when it is in your possession and is lost, stolen, or damaged (including financial failure of the bridal store). Special attire usually includes the clothing and accessories bought or rented that are to be worn by the bride, the groom, and attendants at the ceremony.
Personal Liability: Personal liability covers bodily injury or property damage caused by an accident that occurs during the course of the wedding (your best man trips and falls on his way up to the mike to roast you or Uncle Murray suffers a Harvey Wallbanger wall banger).
Medical Coverage: This covers reasonable medical expenses (up to the policy's limits) for each person who is injured during the covered events from a cause of loss, which would be covered by your personal liability.
Honeymoon: Your honeymoon can cost as much as a new car. But before buying travel insurance to protect your investment, see if your credit card and/or homeowner's policy covers you if your luggage gets lifted, your trip is delayed, or you have to cancel. If not, you can a buy separate, trip-only policy. Call your insurer, or ask your travel agent for details. Also, certain wedding insurance packages include optional travel insurance for your honeymoon.
Things to Consider
Every insurance policy and every wedding scenario is different. Be sure to talk to your insurance agent -- and have him or her explain the nuts and bolts to you. You want to make sure you and your sweetie understand every detail of your policy.

Finally! We have been working for several years to come up with a new brand that would describe in a design what DeVine Choices encompasses as a Wedding and Event Planning Company. I have met with several graphic designers/artists over the years and we just couldn't seem to capture what was in my mind. Well alas, I was introduced to this creative genius, Nakia Thomas of EGB Designs . I was able to explain to Nakia exactly what I was looking for and my thoughts behind what certain elements were important to the design. After several attempts and revisions,

Please allow me to explain the concept so that you can get the full history behind this design. While the pearls are beautiful they are also symbolic of my family's history in the wedding/event planning industry. My great grandmother, Pearl Brooks was a very detailed and organized lady. While she personally did not work in the industry she gave birth to my grandmother, Elmer Terrell who started our legacy in the wedding community. She was owner and certified florist of Terrell's Florist until she retired due to her ailing health. My mother, Pearl Barnes, named after my great grandmother, continued the legacy of being a certified florist and certified wedding designer. My mother, Pearl retired from the wedding community several years ago and thus the torch was passed on to me. To pay homage to my great grandmother, Pearl Brooks, Elmer Terrell and Pearl Barnes, I requested that my logo include Pearls. Unbeknownest to the designer Nakia he included over 40 individual pearls in the strand of pearls which is actually the amount of years that my family has been in the Houston wedding community. I am honored to be a small part of such great historic style, class and creativity. This is exactly what I requested as a standard for our new brand and design. We here in Houston, Texas are in the process of rebounding from Hurricane IKE! It really got me to thinking. How many brides have back up plans if this happened in their area? I have always been a fan of Houston being born and raised here, but I love it even more now! Our Wedding vendors are the best! I recently had a bride that stated that she was really not a flower person. She wanted to minimize her personal flowers for her wedding party. She went as far as to say, " I really don't want my attendants to carry any flowers! Well that really got my creative wheels spinning. What else could the bridesmaids carry if not flowers? After much research, I found out this is really becoming a up and comming wedding trend. I love it!! Here you can be as creative as YOU would like to be. Just think you can give your selections to your bridemaids as gifts!

My Bride and Cell Phone Justice

As weddding planner's we get to meet so many wonderful people from all walks of life. I had the pleasure of meeting two sisters several months ago as I coordinated one of their weddings. Denise was the young lady that I quickly established a close bond with as I helped her with her planning process. I was told during the inital consultation how diffuclut this meeting was because she and her mother actually started out planning her wedding but now her parents would not be in attendance because both of them were tragically killed in an automobile accident recently. Of course I did not probe further as this was a very emotional moment for the both of us. Tissues were flying everywhere! We all made it through the planning and the ceremony with a certain amount of pleasure however there was of course a void because the brides parents were were not in attendance. We did have a beautiful memorial set up on stage in honor of her parents memory. Last night I received a post from their newly established blog in an effort to get the word out about driving while texting. I was not aware of the circumstances that surrounded their untimely departure until today. I too am guilty of driving while texting but after seeing pictures of the vehicle in which their parents were in and knowing first hand how this type of action can affect so many people I can say with certainity that I will NEVER text or talk on the cell telephone without the assistance of hands free capability. Please share this post with as many people that you know to spead the word.. No more texting while driving.

Shall We Dance?

I am so excited that there is a new trend in the Bride and Grooms first dance. This new trend is the "Choreographed" dance. Now I have seen couples perform dances that they designed themselves and I have seen the choreographed dance created by professionals. It is of course the couples choice but I would highly recommend letting a professional show you their tricks of the trade. As a wedding planner I am contacted frequently by dance studios requesting that I refer my clients to them. Being the meticulous ( OK.. nosey) planner that I am I always check out the studio first to see exactly what it is that they have to offer. Last week I was referred to Sir Rodney's Dance studio by my best friend, Gay, for a sneak peek at one of their classes. This studio specializes in Two Steppin and Swing steppin. It was awesome!! My intention was to only be a sideline participant. Well Sir Rodney and his wife, Danita had other plans. Before I knew what had transpired I was a mean lean dancing machine! This couple has such a calm and graceful manner in which they teach the steps, that a person with four left feet would feel like Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers floating above the dance floor. Picture this, beautiful wood floors, mirrors surrounding the entire studio, up lighting everywhere, great instructors and great music. How can you not be in the dancing mood? How many of you remember the final dance scene in my all time favorite movie Dirty Dancing? How about recreating that number for your first dance? What ever speaks to your personality and does not take you out of your comfort zone, I say go for it!

Introducing Tina

It is great when you have a bride that trust your instincts as her planner. Allow me to introduce Tina. She was such a sweet and easy bride to work with. I suggested that she try something a little non traditional and spice it up a little and wear RED pumps under her wedding dress. "ok Tannie.. if you think is a good idea lets go for it. I trust you!" ( in such a soft baby voice). Side note..this is such music to a planners ears !

I really din't have to twist her arm too much. Did I mention that she is a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Inc. and red and white is their sorrority colors? Fast forward to June and the Bridal Session. In steps her photographer, Crystal Williams one of the most creative photographers that I have had the pleasure of working with! I can't wait to share pictures of their wedding, Stay tuned. Tina tells her about my idea of the red shoes and she really captured the concept and the rest is history! Hello there!

I am sitting here at home the day after a wedding. I thought to myself how cool would it be to share how I feel the day after coordinated a wedding. I thought first.. Let's share what happens the day of.. Here it goes!!!

Noon Wedding

6:00 a.m. Wake up.. get dressed and head out to pick up fresh rose petals for decoration of Honeymoon suite!

7:00 a.m. Arrive at Flower shop..pick up rose petals

8:00 a.m. Arrive at Wedding location to drop of cloth for Brides Cake table

9:00 a.m. Return Home..eat breakfast ( thanks to my supportive husband) get dressed and leave for wedding

10:00 a.m. Arrive at Wedding locale

10:00 a.m. Unload car and began decorating tables ( 10 + head table)
Create and decorate Well wishes treel
Meet and Greet early guest (Allways early arrivals)
10:30 a.m. Meet with Weeding facility Staff

10.45 a.m. Bride and Wedding Party arrive

10:55 a.m. Settle bride in Bridal suite

11:00 a.m. Wedding Rehearsal

11:50 a.m. Line up wedding Party and prepare for Wedding to begin

12:00 Noon Wedding begins

12:30 p.m. Introduction of Couple and wedding party

1:00 - 3:00 p.m. Meeting and greet of wedding guests, coordinating band, meals, cake, toasts, dancing and staff, passing out of favors ( oh the list goes on... too much to list.. Whew .. I am tired just typing all of the duties...you get the message)
